Foster Coordinator

GLWR is a foster-based rescue organization and does not have a traditional physical kennel facility. Our dogs are typically housed in family homes and cared for by their foster until we find a forever home for them. Therefore, our process to meet dogs and to adopt may be different than a normal animal control facility, humane society or animal shelter.

Foster Coordinator - Volunteer Position

Great Lakes Weimaraner Rescue has a volunteer position open for a calm individual, ideally with extensive experience with Weimaraners and/or fostering to be their Foster Coordinator. The ideal candidate for this busy position should be:

articulate
an effective communicator (verbal and written)
and have a laptop & cellphone

If you are looking to be the person your dog thinks you are and want to share that with other Weims in need, we need you! We are looking for someone who is smart and funny, just like a Weim, to represent the rescue in a professional and capable manner and help us with the following responsibilities:

Be a foster at least once for GLWR to become familiar with the process and the people behind GLWR
Review foster applications and conduct screening interviews for fosters, this will be done through an online portal using a rescue specific software call Buzz to the Rescues, so a comfort level online and with computers is helpful
Onboard new foster families via phone/zoom, discuss what to expect when fostering for GLWR, answer questions, offer support and ongoing assistance through their foster experience
• Review documentation sent to new Foster Families, update and simplify, consider adding to the new GLWR portal on Buzz for the ease of all
Monitor the Facebook Page for GLWR Foster Families, provide ongoing content and support
Provide content for the GLWR website and social media when possible
Support foster placement between the Transportation Coordinator and the Foster Family
Support adoption coordination between the Foster Family and the GLWR Adoption Coordinator

Things to note about this position

Given the nature of questions from fosters (they are usually urgent texts) it helps if you can answer questions via text immediately, but you may need a phone follow-up, text cannot cover everything. A phone and laptop are not provided by the rescue.

We cover parts of Minnesota through Ontario, so texts/calls will come in at all hours of the day

It will be incredibly rewarding and you will develop deep friendships with other Weim lovers.

You will have the ongoing support of the Board and the previous Foster Coordinator in your training and running of the program.

You will be given a glwr.org email to conduct email correspondence on behalf of the rescue.

The Executive Director of GLWR will make all medical decisions for dogs in the foster program. You are the first point of contact, but can escalate any queries to her once you have triaged the initial issue.

Patience and a sense of humor is incredibly helpful in this role.
