Meet Penny 💜

Hi, I’m Penny! I’m a beautiful 10-month-old Weimaraner girl who is looking for a family to call my own forever.

I didn’t have the easiest start in life. I was surrendered because of a family illness, and I hadn’t had much opportunity to experience the world or learn that all the new sights, sounds, and experiences around me can be okay. When I first arrived with my foster family, a lot of things made me nervous. But guess what? I’m learning! Every day I’m becoming more confident, and I’m discovering that the world can be a pretty wonderful place.

I’m a very loving, affectionate girl and definitely a Velcro dog. Once I trust you, I want to be right by your side. I have especially bonded with my foster dad, and I’m learning to love my foster mom more and more every day. I’m looking for someone who will be my calm, confident leader while also giving me the patience, kindness, and reassurance I need to continue building my confidence.

I’m a smart girl, too! I know sit, stay, down, come, time out, and time for bed. I’ve done great with house training and have had no accidents in my foster home. I sleep peacefully through the night, although I’ll happily tell you that sleeping in bed with my people is much better than sleeping on my own dog bed!

Like most young Weimaraners, I have plenty of puppy energy. I LOVE my toys, running around the garden, and doing zoomies! I’m working hard on my leash manners and practice several times a day. I’m still a curious girl and sometimes pull because there is simply so much to investigate, but I’m learning.

I also have a few things I’m still working on. Because I wasn’t well socialized early in life, I can become frightened or insecure in certain situations. I can also become defensive about things I consider valuable, such as my food, treats, chews, and toys. My foster family is patiently teaching me that I am safe and that I can trust the people caring for me. I need a family who understands that building trust takes time and who is willing to continue working with me using patience, consistency, and positive guidance.

Because I’m young, energetic, and can get very excited and jumpy, a home without small children would be best for me. I seem to prefer men, although I am absolutely proving that I can learn to trust and love women, too!

There are cats in my foster home. I’m very curious about them and would probably love nothing more than to convince them to play with me, but my foster family is being careful and giving everyone time to get comfortable. I haven’t shown aggression toward the cats, but because I’m still learning, a cat-free home would probably be the best match for me.

I also haven’t lived with another dog, so we don’t yet know how I would do with a canine sibling. A careful introduction would be important if my forever family already has a dog.

What I’m Looking For ❤️

I’m looking for an active, patient, stable family who understands that I’m still a puppy and that I have some confidence-building and training ahead of me. I need someone who will give me structure, consistency, gentle leadership, exercise, and—most importantly—time to learn that I am safe and loved.

In return, I promise to give you what Weimaraners do best: a whole lot of love, loyalty, personality, goofy zoomies, and a shadow who will follow you everywhere.

I may not be the perfect dog for every family, but I could be the perfect dog for the right family.

I’ve already come so far. Now I just need someone who will believe in me, continue helping me grow, and love me forever.

Could you be my person? 🐾💜
